Sardine Season

One of the highlights of the South Coast winter season is undoubtedly the Sardine Run, normally anytime between June and July. This is one of the greatest ocean migrations on earth millions of Sardines migrate up along the coast from the colder Cape waters to the warmer KZN waters.  The most exciting experience you can have is scuba diving with sharks while the sardine run is in full swing.

While travelling north the Sardines attract a plethora of predators, including whales, sharks, dolphins and Cape Gannets who prey on them. Also present are an array of game fish such as Mackerel and Tuna. The Sardines are often driven into shallow waters and even wash up onto local beaches.
